The Farmer is preparing the soil for the pumpkins, soon to be planted. The melons should be on this week, there are so many that I am sure the Farmers Son will be wheeling and dealing. The sweet corn has taken a couple of hits from the grasshoppers and worms. We are just chopping off the top part with the worm so don't be alarmed at headless corn. The fall baby goats should be here starting around  August 1. Should be plenty of goat milk this winter.  The honey will be ready to harvest in the next couple of weeks.

Cooking With Lavender & Herbs Class - August 18
10:30am-1:00pm Cost is $30.00 which includes, class/recipes and lunch.

The Berry Patch

  --Featured Farm-This Week

If you love fresh blueberries and blackberries, you will want to travel to Sadler, Texas just east of Whitesboro to pick some the best berries in the area.  The Berry Patch has 4 varieties of blueberries as well as 4 different varieties of blackberries. Some of the blackberries are thornless so that it will help save your fingers.
The farm has 6 acres of blueberries and 3 acres of blackberries.  It is a wonderful place to bring the family to pick your own fruit. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the beauty of the area.  Prices are per bucket and not per pound.

Check their website and facebook page for opening dates. The berries normally begin ripening in June through July.  They also have many fine jams and jellies available for purchase.

Buy Local---Where do I find a local farm?

Just attended a class in Denton yesterday and was amazed at how many of the attendees were not aware of all the resources we have in the North Texas area for local farms and dairies.  In light of that, this blog was created to  help inform the public of all the great opportunities we have to purchase quality, locally produced products in our own backyard.

In the next few weeks links will be added and a farm will be featured so that you will know what is available.

Let's support our local farmers and take advantage of their fresh products.
